Classes

Interested in learning to knit?  Call the shop for details on our free "learn-to-knit" lessons.

 

CLASSES:   Note that some classes meet in 2-4 sessions and all dates are required.  “hw” denotes pre-class homework;  Class descriptions below calendar in alphabetical order.

 

2 Circs For Me:  An alternative to knitting in the round on dpn’s.  Students may bring a pattern to start in class.  ($25, choose one date)

Clapotis:  The ever-popular Clapotis makes a fabulous last-minute gift and is easy with a little guidance for the newbie.  With permission from the designer and knitty.com, we’ll guide you through doing the knitting and the scary prospect of doing the dropping!  ($45, both dates required)

Crochet 101:  We’ve expanded and updated our “Learn to Crochet” class.  You’ll even go into some of the techniques formerly in our Crochet 102 class.  ($45 includes yarn & pattern, choose one date)

DPN’s: All those pointy sticks got you scared?  Learn to knit in the round on Double-Pointed Needles in our basic DPN class.  ($25, choose one)

Enticing EntrelacIf you are intrigued by this knitting technique that looks like you’ve woven your knitting, you’ll enjoy making a bag which can be felted, if desired.  ($45, includes pattern, you bring yarn/needles, some homework).

Felted Oven Mitt:  The holidays will be here sooner than you think!  From the book "Felted Knits", the felted oven mitt and potholder (as class time permits) are wonderful handmade gifts your loved ones will really appreciate!  DPN experience required.  ($35, homework)

Fetching:  Knitty.com and the designer have once again given us permission to teach a class based on this waaay popular pattern for cabled fingerless mittens.  ($35, both dates required)

Finish Up!:  Got a project (or 5 or 6) sitting around that you’re stuck on?  Just need some motivation to continue on?  Join us for help and encouragement to get those projects (especially the holiday gift ones) finished.  ($20).

Help:  Ever felt like knitting instructions are written in another language?  Just need a little aid in picking up a stitch?  We'll have someone available for those sticky situations that keep you from progressing on your project.  ($10)

Just Your Basic Sock:  If you’ve been yearning for a pair of yummy hand-knit socks, we'll “walk” you through them!  DPN’s experience is required (see "Basic DPN's" class above).  ($70, all dates required)

Knitting 102:  OK, you’ve learned to knit a garter-stitch scarf—now what?  Learn increasing and decreasing, simple pattern reading, and a bit about correcting mistakes.  You’ll knit a face cloth great for giving with a bar of handmade soap or for using around your own house!  ($45 includes yarn/pattern, choose one date, some homework)

Knitting Around on a Magic Loop:  A nice alternative to knitting in the round on dpn’s.  Students may bring a pattern to discuss or get started on in class. ($25, choose one date)

Monkeyin' Around with Socks:  The Monkey Sock is one of the most popular sock patterns ever, and Cookie A has given us permission to teach YOU how to knit these beautiful lace socks.  Woo-hoo!  (or should we say Ooo-ooo? <g>)  ($70, all dates required, homework.  Prerequisite: DPN class or prior experience).

Short Row Shortie:  “W&T” got you stumped? “Pick up wraps” sound foreign?  Learn how to short-row while knitting this cute little wrap.  ($40 includes pattern)

A Smokin’ Scarf:  Wanna try some lace?  Wendy Bernard, creator of the Knit and Tonic blog has given us permission to use her free pattern, Easy Flame Lace Scarf, in this class perfect for the advanced beginner. ($30, choose one)

Sweater Wizardry: We love to knit summer tops here at Y2E…and winter pullovers, fall cardis and…well, you get the picture.  If you’ve had trouble knitting a garment that fits, OR, if this is your first foray into knitting a sweater, this class is for you.  Using Sweater Wizard software and a simple garment you already own and love, we’ll measure and create the right pattern with the yarn you’ve chosen.  ($80 includes custom pattern, all dates required, homework, project yarn must be purchased at Y2E)

Toe-Up Socks:  If you're interested in learning socks from a different perspective, now's your chance!  Using Judy's Magic Cast-on, you'll start you sock at the "bottom" and work up!  ($70, all dates required.  Some homework.  Prerequisite: Experience knitting on 2 circular needles or the 2 Circs For Me class.)
